My father is an architect. His Rotring rapidographs were very fascinating for me, when I was a child - maybe, because I was not allowed to touch them.
In school we often had to draw trees an buildings with black ink. This was a very boring exercise. Thanks to my teacher (who considered himself to be an artist), I completely lost my interest in painting and drawing.
Maybe, twenty years later, I started drawing with a rapidograph, that forced me to slow down my motions, to take time for drawing.
Usually, I am starting with white paper, nothing on the paper nothing or at least no picture in my brain. My hand draws an arbitrary line. Then, my eyes start watching the line. What is it? What could it be? Answering these questions, the line grows.
Finally, there is a drawing instead of the white paper. Is it complete? Shall I continue or stop? What is visible? What is missing? Is this me, a part of myself?
